Pasaport (Not a printing error, but the Turkish word for "passport”) The famous yellow dock and pier between Konak and Cumhuriyet Meydanı. Pasaport Dock was built in 1876. The dock building is in the Turkish revival style inspired by Ottoman and Selçuk architecture which was popular in the 1920s and 1930s. Originally this was a "bonded" area where merchants, customs halls and other commercial activities took place. The harbor area is now mainly used by small commercial craft, there is also a ferry port and some Turkish Navel vessels can often be seen moored by the Konak Pier. The waterfront quarters a host of Bars, Cafes and Tea houses where the locals relax with their water pipes, play backgammon and sip tea whilst watching the world go by...

Is it also the place to enjoy a nice glass of white wine in the summer? Or do you recommend other bars/restaurants?

Konak Pier is nice Nath - plenty of lovely cafes & restaurants on there (though some a little pricey) - nice for wandering round all the little shops and enjoying sea air & views, (also has a Cinema) but Alsancak & Karsiyaka full of seafront (& back-street!) bars and restaurants! A trip on the ferry between the various places a must also!

Yep, agree with you Kastamonu - Alsancak and Konak Pier are great places for people watching and enjoying a coffee/beer....... whatever!

Alsancak and Konak are great. Alsancak-konak is very similar to Besiktas-Ortakoy-Bebek region in Istanbul.
We were coming together in front of the PTT in Alsancak/pasaport with the classmates or in the Izmir fair when we were high school students :)
